Our History

Birth of Scripture Union Singapore

Prior to the establishment of Scripture Union Singapore, printed resources from Scripture Union United Kingdom had already made their way to Singapore as early as 1908.  These Christian materials were specially ordered by individuals who knew about the availability of such resources.

In this vibrant mission setting, Dr John Laird from the British Scripture Union in London, visited Singapore in 1954 to speak at several schools and a rally.

In 1955, Dr Leon Dale had a vision of a Scripture Union in Singapore.  He laid the groundwork, and together with five active Christian workers, set up a pro-tem committee that was to be the very first Council for Scripture Union Singapore.

The Scripture Union Singapore Headquarters was opened in 1958 with Dr Khoo Oon Teik as our first local Chairperson.  The organisation was officially registered as a society with the Registrar of Societies on 13 May, 1961.
